Personal Logo Design
Initial thinking started by looking at a Japanese seal and linking this with furniture shapes. I liked the idea of using and  dividing up a square as this would fit well in most digital formats eg. face book, app icons etc. The idea of dividing up a square which is a standard geometric shape links with the use of standard sheet material sizes in the furniture I often design and manufacture. I was also looking to incorporate my initials DJM.
I was very concious of the shape each letter would need to take and explored some different options with the aim to simplify the letter shape as much as possible and at the same time suggest furniture shapes. In the back of my mind I wanted to use a kind of burnt orange as its one of my favourite colours especially when combined with black and had played with this quite a bit before explore my current thinking.
With a basic design in mind I started to play about in Inkscape playing with the construction of my letter shapes and weight of lines. At the same time thinking about how my business cards might look. I also experiment with colour and effects to try to create the look of a rubber stamp linking back to the original idea of a Japanese seal.
As the design started to take shape I started to explore different colours and colour combinations. I wasn't entirely happy with the letters so looked at the effect of some subtle changes.
Having explored several options I decided upon my final design.
Final design in black and white.
New logo in its various guises in some different colours.
Final design in a burnt orange shown in different formats including orange and black.
