Year 2020: The Changing of the Plans

Year 2020: The Changing of the Plans
I had big creative plans for 2020, but in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, much of those plans were compromised. I not only lost access to in-person communication and on-location work, but also to secure Internet connection, which made turning in assignments for classes much trickier. Still, I'd like to showcase what I was able to produce with the limited resources on hand.
Aki Farm (CM 400D: Documentary Arts)
Shortly before the government called for lockdowns, I was tasked to create a photo journal of something interesting in my community. I chose my father's family friends to document their rustic farm in the Waianae mountains. It is not only one of my proudest on-location shoots, but also a bittersweet memory of what life was like before face masks.

The Quarantine Queries (CM 400D: Documentary Arts)
I was mad when I learned that college was transferring from in person to online. I was even more upset when I found out that my main assignment for the semester was to create a blog series documenting my experiences with the pandemic. Despite my previous feelings, the YouTube playlist known as the Quarantine Queries helped me to recognize of documentation, especially during a once-every-hundred-years scenario like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Animations
While doing college at home, I learned to animate videos using After Effects. Despite causing some massive stress on my Mac, I managed to complete five animations. I'm not proud of all of them, but I'm pleased to have taken up a new creative skill on my own.
