In the land where freedom is the central paradigm, this work seizes the contradictory determination to capture heritage and mark territory by all means available. When passing through the immense playground of Arizona, Utah, Nevada and California, sightseeing is often over-branded, abandoned or entirely artificial – testimonials of a blended, sometimes nomadic, and still young legacy.

Landmarks ordinarily contribute to the mental representation of environment, recallable by individuals. Nowhereland’s landmarks stand out by the mere fact that they exist, with very little resources, in an infinite space of possibilities marked by the neglect of passersby, provoking mock archaeological work. They are evidence of the country’s quest for identity and the human need to mark their existence in an ever-changing environment.
