The major project for my Visual Interaction Design class was to create a digital interactive piece that can demonstrate the key events of a movie. Out of the seven movie options, I decided to choose Clueless, the movie that I am most comfortable and familiar with.
Clueless is a 1995 American coming-of-age comedy film that is notable for its cheery and loveable protagonist, Cher Horowitz, as well as her iconic wardrobe that has set off popular fashion trends. The movie centres around Cher, a beautiful, popular and rich high school student, who one day decides to befriends a new student named Tai and become a matchmaker for her new friend.
Through the story-telling from Cher's private journal, this digital interactive piece is titled as Clueless: A Guide To Cher's Fabulous Life, which allows readers to hop onto this emotional rollercoaster along with Cher as she tells the story of Clueless in her own narrative.
The idea of adopting the style of a journal entry as the method of storytelling is inspired by the "Burn Book" in Mean Girls (2004). The "Burn Book" was created by three popular but mean high school girls in the film to start rumours, stories and gossip about their fellow schoolmates.
In order to show Cher's sweet and girly personalities through the website, the colour palette focuses on various shades of pink. Since the website is designed to be the scrapbook journal of a teenage girl, it includes graphic elements such as polaroids, stickers and paper notes.
An Overview of the Website
The website includes the cover page, a page that introduces Cher, a table of content and the five journal entires that tells the story of Clueless.
