Puck the Little Painter - Vinyl Toy

Toy Design
VINYL TOY

SELF INITIATED PROJECT

A few years ago I had the opportunity to learn basic 3D modeling from a coworker. As an illustrator and character designer, I was excited by the challenge of bringing my signature dokkaebi goblin character to life. Dokkaebi, or dokebi, are mischievous goblin creatures from Korean folklore that can often be found playing pranks on humans. My illustrations are a modern take on the creature and I wanted my model to reflect that.

Although I designed several versions of my dokkaebi, Puck - Little Painter was ultimately the model that became my vinyl toy. The name is a reference to the fairy in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream who, like the dokkaebi, is known for being mischievous. I was very fortunate to partner with Strange Cat Toys and together we have created a number of variations of Puck.

PACKAGING

For the first round of packaging I designed a header card. As the popularity of the toy grew, we decided to switch to a blister package to provide a more secure container for shipping. I took this opportunity to redesign the logo focusing on an organic type-face.
