Self Portrait
This is my self-portrait. I think this describes me well because Michelangelo’s David is split in 4 colors, which I see as emotions. Yellow being happiness, green being shame, pink being anger, and cyan being sadness. I could have made them different colors, but… this combination stood out to me. Each duplicated image is outlined in gold, encasing ‘emotion’. That’s what I see as memory almost, sealing in feeling and environments to look back on. Emotions don’t have to be particularly complex, I often feel them as raw. Sometimes I can experience raw happiness, raw sadness, etc-- it’s a rollercoaster of colors, only time will tell when it will end. That’s why it’s merely a highlight of the full picture of David.
Unity Project
This is my representation of unity. I chose these animals and colors because of the season upon us, my personal favorite, autumn. The warm reds and yellows represent the changing of leaves, and the deep purple represents the upcoming holiday. The animals I chose are active during the fall, as bird migrate south, foxes hunt, bears eat for hibernation, and squirrels bury and store acorns. The main elements used are unity, assemblage, and continuity. Unity because the animals are displayed in the same style and color, assemblage because the piece is an even grid, and continuity because if you multiply the pattern, it would continue seamlessly.
Music Design
My chosen song is Highway Star, by Deep Purple.
I chose this song because it's one of my favorites recently, being high-energy and a great song to listen to on the highway.
I believe I demonstrated a complementary color scheme- pinks and greens, then some oranges, reds, and yellows. The green's contrast with the rest of the colors used makes this pop.
I used sharp objects like triangles to represent the edge the music has and lines to represent the drums. As for my process, I listened and let my hands move without logic.
Whenever I think of human voices, I've always associated them with circles for some odd reason, which is why I added them. Let's say I was listening to Somebody to Love. I would think of Freddie Mercury's voice as a chandelier made up of circles.
Overall, the design's color tones are very bright and saturated, perhaps hard on the eyes, but represents the high energy of the song.
World in a Wineglass Project
Here are my two wineglasses, one with a focal point and another without. The dragon in the wineglass is a strong focal point, being in the center of the fire. The other glass is a wonderful picture of New Zealand, which doesn't have a focal point. All the components of the scene compliment each other, which I thought was great for this project.
Map Collage
Here's my map collage. I chose to make the Maine flag. The tree and star are differently colored than the background to create contrast, and are further emphasized by a drop shadow.
Balance Project
Here is what I turned in for my balance assignment. On the left is asymmetrical balance, next to that is radial balance, next symmetrical balance, and finally, unbalance. I tried to keep a simplicity to my designs and used bright colors.
Line Project
My first image represents organic lines, a fake potted plant. I have the exact same potted plant in my room, it's my favorite. I wasn't going for any type of balance specifically, I just placed it in the center because it felt right.
My second image, geometric lines, is meant to represent unbalance and chaos. It's hectic to look at, with the repeating lines placed in an odd fashion- uncomfortable.
My third image, a combination of organic and geometric lines, is a woman's face cut in half. The top part is overwhelming, while the bottom is simple and easier on the eyes- kind of like a person, metaphorically. The human mind is strange and confusing, while the human body is simpler to understand.
Midterm
Here's my work for the midterm. Each paragraph below follows the compositions from left to right.

First, this is my cityscape piece, focusing on secondary colors, scale/proportion and bilateral balance. This piece represents secondary colors by boasting vibrant oranges, with a hint of purple. The road shows scale/proportion by being shaped in such a way that it looks like a road that stretches on forever, and the buildings are positioned to neatly fit next to each other, showing scale with the differing heights. The left side is symmetrical with the right, thus creating bilateral balance.

Second, my caricature, focusing on primary colors, focal point by contrast and radial balance. I used red, blue, and a bit of yellow to create this, utilizing lighter shades to emphasize the two awake people, making my focal point by contrast. My radial balance is achieved by positioning the four people on every side of the design, being equally sized. My inspiration to make this design creepy was YouTube horror videos, as I enjoy listening to them as I work.

Third, my surrealistic piece, focusing on focal point by isolation, asymmetry, and monochrome colors. I made this remembering my dream last night, where I got abducted by unknown people… scary. The person floating upwards is the only white object in the scene, isolating itself from the scene and becoming the focal point. None of the aspects in this scene are symmetrical, thus being asymmetrical. Everything is colored a diluted blue, except for the focal point, therefore representing a monochromatic color scheme.

Fourth, my abstract piece. Representing proximity, imbalance and vibrating color. I tried to get the shapes close together and imbalanced at the same time, let me know how I did on that part! There are many vibrating and contrasting colors in this piece, seriously popping out and hurting my eyes. This represents imbalance and proximity by being close yet still giving off the feeling like something’s wrong.

Fifth, and finally, my combination piece. It represents positive/negative space, informal balance, and monochrome colors, again. These two humanoids-shaped people are two halves of a whole piece, seemingly cut out, representing negative and positive space. The shapes are positioned and colored to look like opposites, but still playing into informal balance by having equal weight on both sides but still keeping it different- asymmetrical, really.
Ink Grid Project
This is my ink grid project, on the top left is rectilinear/geometric form, top right is curvilinear/biomorphic/organic form, bottom left is a combination of rectilinear and curvilinear form, and finally, the bottom right is an abstraction of shapes.
The next page or two is dedicated to my 2D final project.
This piece depicts a cockatoo, making use of organic line and achromatic colors. The organic lines seem to sweep and swirl around, forming the shape of a cockatoo. Using achromatic colors added to the design, giving an emphasis through value (as black is a stark contrast to white).
Here is a design of a man sitting. The design is achieving the feeling of scary because I utilized pattern/texture, making it seem as though the man is bleeding from various openings in his leathery skin. These two attributes can go hand in hand if used correctly. Also, the lighting in the scene is minimal, and dark settings give off a foreboding atmosphere.
My third design is of three identically shaped butterflies, colored in the primary tones and flying together. With the shape being identical and the three close in proximity, I believe this creates a feeling of unity in the design, which I was aiming for.
A bit of a psychedelic design, making use of analogous colors and balance with symmetry. The cat’s face isn’t perfectly symmetrical as the lines aren’t flowing exactly the same on either side, but it’s shaped nearly exactly the same. The purple, blue, and cyan are next to each other, making it analogous.
I chose tints and focal/emphasis as my attributes for this design. The boat is the focal point because it’s close to the middle, and colored differently from the water and sky. All the colors in this design are bright and cheery, representing tints.
I chose the feeling of dreaminess and the illusion of space for this design. The dreaminess comes from the weird factor, with unusual colors for the scene (foliage isn’t purple), blurriness (nothing in dreams are clear to me), a slight grain, and a strange geometrical cat sitting on the road. The illusion of space is achieved with the road, as it feels like it’s going forward and not up.
Here is my design based off the feeling of calm and the use of rhythm. Trees in Italy are planted in an organized manner in areas of the country, and I got inspiration from the various photos I saw online. The little house in the field of plants gives a feeling of calm, and the trees repeating shows rhythm.
Shape and secondary colors were chosen for this design. I got a photo of David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, and simplified his form into various multi-sided shapes. All of these shapes are in secondary colors, thus representing the attribute.
My favorite of all, my design using monochrome colors and scale/proportion. The large banana juxtaposes with the rest of the scene, as it is metallic and… completely out of place. The fragments of buildings littered around and the small man set this strange environment on top of a wooden table, and it reminds me of those ‘I Spy’ books. I believe those factors make this an excellent example of scale/proportion. Everything in this scene is colored in shades of yellow, making it monochrome.
I chose complementary colors and the illusion of motion for this piece. The hummingbird is colored blue and orange, showing complementary colors, and the fact that it’s fluttering in place also gives the illusion of motion as a sequence of pictures.
A radiant sun with multicolor rays, showing the use of all tertiary colors and radial balance. The rays circle around the sun equally, connecting to the focal point in the center, making it radial balance.
This design was made using shades and harmonic design. Every color used is a color plus black, making it a shade. The rectangles and circles fit together under the same theme and aesthetic so it feels like every element belongs together. This makes it harmony.
