Oefendorpen in Nederland.


Villages where all: army, police, firebrigade and other emergency services practice their skills.


I photographed two villages. The main village is built for the Royal Dutch Navy and the other one is built for the fire brigade. 
Without seeing the people that use the villages, the atmosphere is really weird. It looks like something has gone completely wrong. And not that the whole purpose is to avoid that.
As for buildings, it has almost everything you can expect from a normal village. Except for the church. As it is forbidden to fight in it. But for the fire brigade theres no problem whatsoever so they built their own church and set fire in it....and fight that..

Some other interesting thing about the RDN village are the names of the roads there. They are named after the roads of Rotterdam, the city that was almost entirely burnt down during the second world war.
