Dead Forest Estate Vineyards

This is a wine bottle label and packaging design I created for fictional Sonoma winery Dead Forest Estate. The wine is a Shiraz called Black Cat, made of grapes grown in the soil of a long dead oak forest that had previously existed on the vineyard land.

I took the branding and packaging in a somewhat darker direction per the vineyard name and history. The label, a dead oak tree, seems to almost be "growing" out of the bottle itself. We can look below the tree to see blood-red roots, enbodying the deep crimson color of the shiraz therein, that leads the eye toward the text near the bottom of the label.

Student project.
I had the label printed on vinyl and applied it by hand.
I applied the graphics to the box through a somewhat involved process involving Xylol.
I built the box myself (appropriately) out of oak planks. The corners are all dadoed, with a sliding door type lid that only slides open after removing the hand-carved pin. I finished it all with amber shellac and tung oil.
