Reviewing Poco M3: Xiaomi Launches New Smartphone

Remember the movie “Ghost Rider”? There’s a dialogue by the character Johnny Blaze – “If you don’t make a choice, the choice makes you.” We all live in a market where there are bags of choices, and to choose the perfect one needs a lot of grilling time with the product. This grilling can enlarge if the user goes into the perplexity mode. And, one can go most probably into this state when one has to decide the smartphone. Well, this is the domain where many products seem like reality and many like a decoy. But, as a user, one has to make a choice. More the number of products, the more challenging the selection becomes. To increase the competitiveness of the smartphone market, Xiaomi’s independent brand Poco has launched Poco M3. Let’s extract the precious items of the treasure of Xiaomi’s Poco M3.

What’s in the box?

The complete baggage of Xiaomi’s Poco M3 smartphone contains:

POCO M3
Adapter
USB Type-C cable
SIM Eject Tool
User Guide
Soft Case
Warranty Card

Physical Structure

Poco M3 belongs to the pretty light-weight smartphone category. It weighs 198 grams, just like the ZTE Axon 5G. The dimensional structure of Poco M3 is 162.3 x 77.3 x 9.6 mm. Poco M3 is available in three colors – yellow, cool blue, and power black. Poco M3 features an IPS LCD screen display with a 1,500:1 contrast ratio and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The resolution of the screen display in the new Poco smartphone is 2340×1080  pixels. Xiaomi has protected the glass with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Processor & Platform

Poco M3 embeds Qualcomm SM6115 Snapdragon 662 as its processor. Built on 11 nm technology, this is the first in Qualcomm’s 6-series to support the HEIF format. Hence, it enables the user to store high-quality and bulky photos at half the size. The processor has Adreno 610 GPU support that ensures smooth and vivid graphics. One of the most significant benefits of this processor is that it is compatible with Wi-Fi 6 and WPA-3 security. Poco M3 supports Android 10 with UI features of MIUI 12. Thus, the users get the real tone of weather present outside. The Mi-Light Cone animation framework in the MIUI 12 builds a new physical animation engine to integrate all system rendering mechanisms to a new level.

Memory

Xiaomi’s Poco M3 is available in two memory variants – 4 GB RAM with 128 GB internal memory and 4GB RAM with 64 GB internal memory. Both the memory variants of this new smartphone support LPDDR4X. The UFS version of 128 GB memory is 2.2, while that of 64 GB memory is 2.1. One of the most notable differences between the two versions is the write function (one of the data transfer rate). With UFS 2.2 is an upgraded version of its predecessor, 2.1, there is a massive improvement in the writing speed. This improvised speed enhances the cache loading and startup rate. A user with Poco M3 can expand the memory due to the external memory slot available to insert a microSDXC card.

Audio & Camera

The new Xiaomi smartphone has a 0.8cc-equivalent sound chamber and a 3.5mm headphone jack port. It supports a wide range of audio formats, including MP3, WAV, AAC, M4A, FLAC, APE, DSF, OGG, WMA, AMR, and AWB. Xiaomi’s Poco M3 has three cameras on the rear side and one selfie camera. One of the rear-side cameras, the main camera, 48 MP with f/1.79 aperture, has AI capability. The backside cameras support the following mode:

Document mode
Night mode
Raw mode
Portrait mode
Panorama
Google Lens
AI Beautify
AI scene detection
Movie frame

The time-lapse feature in the new smartphone helps to capture different scenes at a different speed. The movie frame feature ensures that the user can add cinematic flavors to the video.

Network & Port Configurations

Wi-Fi: Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
4G: LTE-FDD with B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28 band support
Bluetooth: Bluetooth 5.0 with A2DP support and low energy
GPS: A-GPS with support of GLONASS and BDS

Battery

Poco M3 comes up with a non-removable Li-Po 6000 mAh battery with 18 W fast charging due to the USB Type-C port support. Also, USB Type-C ensures reverse charging because of the USB-C reversible connector. Poco M3 provides a 22.5W fast charger in-box.

Sensors

Proximity
Ambient light
Accelerometer
IR Blaster
Vibration motor
Electronic Compass
Fingerprint

Xiaomi’s Poco M3 has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. This biometric sensor enhances the security of the new smartphone.

Conclusion

Poco M3 is available at an affordable rate. Priced at $149 for the US market and £199 for UK consumers, Poco M3 does not let the users go into the dilemma of trade-off. The features are phenomenal because the smartphone has the edge over many of the smartphones existing in the consumer electronics domain. Because Xiaomi has launched this recently, people have to wait for the online purchase unless e-commerce organizations add this smartphone to their inventories. However, it is available through Amazon in the UK. But, there are no signs of Poco M3 being available in the USA.
