The Posy Lady
This series of illustrations were created for a theoretical picture book based on the life of the first female botanist of Maine, Kate Furbish. She was known for creating thousands of watercolor paintings documenting the flora of Maine. She spent her life deep in the rugged forests and rough terrain of Victorian New England, defying the norms of the day where many women weren't known for venturing out alone to "rough-it" in the wilderness.
Below I have provided thumbnail sketches for the 32 page book, as well as more finalized sketches for a few of the pages.
