Memorial Installation for Temple Sinai
Commission to design and install a memorial wall installation. This would include a Bronze cast Sconce "Eternal Light" and inscription above in bronze.
This picture depicts the first stage in constructing the wax model for the sconce. A wooden armature supports the cut wax strips that will be woven to imitate flame swirls. Strips were cut from large sheets of wax.
Build up with more strips and the woven form begins to emerge.
Back and side views, model nearing completion.
Finished model. Strips have all had the connecting points securely welded and the surfaces have been flame polished.
Inscription to be installed 10 feet above floor. Unable to locate font that "read" clearly at that height, I drew my own. This was done the old schol way, by hand. This was then scanned and a print was generated for cutting from 1/4" bronze sheet.
Casting day for the sconce at the foundry. Hot and humid June day.
Installation day. In above sequence the precise location of mounting is mapped with a laser level and letters are mounted with a 1" offset from wall. Sconce is now in place. The bronze nameplate tablets were from another firm.
Completed project. Note the plastic foam spacers in some of the letters remained for 24 hours to assure the cement set properly.
After the install the sconce will eventually be wired and lit to glow and provide illumination on the tablets.
