Over the next 20 years, the Downtown Cairo urban design strategy 2020 will help rephrase the urban environment, setting the stage for a renewed, inspiring and beautiful physical environment. It will celebrate Downtown Cairo's rich history integrating it with Cairo's unique urban essence, Egypt's National capital. The strategy here in this project will be focusing on the Opera-Ataba square and the Azbakeya Garden area, enhancing their role as a focal point for the area and a distinctive destination for both residents and visitors alike. Our goal is to make it a sought after location enjoying a strong civic identity that is vibrant, livable and engaging. The impressive urban qualities of Downtown Cairo will be emphasized in this are since it acts as a link between the Old Cairo and the Khedivial Cairo.
Our vision promotes increasing the the green photo print in cairo and pedestrianization, The previous will be achieved as follows:
- Revitalizing the area by riving its radiant role as the city's node.
- Recalling the rich historic architectural and urban spirit in a modern sense.
- Exploring the area's potentials from the open spaces, Azbakeya Garden, historic buildings, etc.
- Creating Cairo first pedestrian node acting as a catalyst project.
- Increasing green spaces dramatically responding of environmental global movement.
- Rebirth of a new opera from the ashes of the old Opera of Cairo, samples the phoenix which burns to ash and then rises again from the ground in a certain hierarchy of levels allowing the pedestrian paths to be through/over the opera.
