LIkes, Dislikes and other possible Facebook icons

We use Facebook daily to see what’s up with all of our friends around the globe, and to find out what everyone is talking about in the art community. We look at and use that Facebook “like” icon so frequently it has imprinted itself on our brains. There has always seemed to be a need for more than just a single “like” icon. There are posts you want to “dislike”, “fist bump”, “double like”, or call “BS” on.  It’s long been clear that people want more icons to express their feelings with, so a little while back we made some mental notes, and a few “ha-ha” funny sketches and filed them away for another day.

Recently we got the opportunity to create a cover illustration for Advertising Week about Jet Blue and their social media efforts. While working on that image, we were generating icons and decided to include the Facebook “like” as well. As we were creating the thumbs-up “like” icon, the idea of multiple variations came back to us in full force, and really resonated. So we modeled a “thumbs-down” icon to go with it, and we thought, why stop there? We went on to model a whole series of ideas like the “metal horns”, a “peace sign”, a pile of “internet poop," the Vulcan “live long and prosper” sign, and a “middle finger salute” to round out the concept. While developing these, we came up with over a dozen products that we would love to show to some marketing people over at the Facebook HQ.

We thought that it would be great to add some extra icons to the social media arena.
