MOBILITY JAPAN: HIYORI

As an aspiring car designer, I often ask myself, what is the future of mobility? what is the value of car design in the future? After examining these questions closely, I propose the project Mobility Japan as a solution to these challenging dilemmas.

I was fortunate to reside in Japan for the duration of my internship and participated in several cultural activities. During my internship, I had the opportunity to travel, learn, and experience the culture locally, which allowed me to subjectively go through a “culture baptism”. Japan is an island country located in the heart of far East Asia, well known for its balance between rich traditional culture and epoch-making technology. Moreover, in the 21st century, the nation has become one of the biggest melting pots of cross-culturalism in Asia. I remember vividly that a small voice kept echoing in the back of my mind, as I pondered and explored deeper into the sight, “how can we reignite the passion of the vanishing historical culture while balancing the new trends?” In hindsight, when it comes to the world of transportation, a reflection of Japan's unique culture, the car scene and Japanese cars have always been distinctive. I’ve learned that while technology is developing at a startling pace, it’s paramount that we find a harmonious way to maintain the traditional legacy and its heritage, while respectfully accepting new cultures and technologies in the world of cultural amalgamation and transportation. I see a countless number of transportation mobility potentials that can be achieved by creating a resonating system-network with a Japanese ideology. Reviving and strengthening the old culture (Nostalgia series), while unifying the new foreign culture (Innovation series). In this project, I’ve designed 15 mobility cars with an electrified platform and AI technology based on Japan’s ideology.

In the forthcoming future, I believe that many cities will be turning towards renewable energy bases where individuals have better options to choose from other than natural gas and fossil fuels as a source of energy. In addition, AI technology will be taking our standard of living to another realm. On the road, there will also be an autonomous charging lane where vehicles can receive
delayed-less charging as it goes via the wireless charging technology (Inductive Power Transfer). Adapting to the green society dimension of the wheel and battery pack is fixed as a whole set of modular. From the well-being point of view, the Covid-19 pandemic has dramatically affected our lifestyles in dozens of ways. Therefore, these designs are made accordingly with social distancing and safety in mind. For instance, all of the functions and features are operated via phone applications to minimize any physical touch within the vehicle. In this project, there are mainly two categories and one perk, the “Nostalgia and Innovation series", with the support of a “Helper”.
