"Cross my Heart," charcoal
For this piece, I wanted to focus on lies in the church. Being deceptive is a sin chronicled within the Bible, but lying is one of the easiest (and arguably, most common) rule broken by followers of Christ. These lies, however, are more often than not forgiven while at confessions or through prayer. This piece balances a rosary with crossed fingers, representing how upholding the Bible and its practices in modern society is often accompanied by deception, personal interpretation or other forms of excuse which go against God. The hands are dirty whilst holding the pure and clean symbol of Christianity. This work is simple, but I believe it speaks volume.
