Golden Gate Park Events Calendar

When presented with the opportunity to create a 20" x 30" event calendar for Golden Gate Park, I first carefully studied the information to find logical points of organization. I chose to organize events chronologically in order to provide the viewer with a clear, logical hierarchy and grouped events according to location using colored backgrounds.
I emphasized dates and titles by using a bold weight to direct the viewer to the most relevant information first. I aligned the text to an underlying grid to provide structure and made use of graphical elements which broke the grid structure to add visual interest.
I used Terence Conran's 1970's "The House Book" for color palette inspiration. The palette makes use of fall colors and the colored squares are meant to be abstractions of falling leaves.
Early iterations and alternate versions were developed, though inevitably set aside due to concerns with readability and structure of organized elements.
