For this project, I set out to design a more camera-like experience for the Game Boy Camera while still retaining the nuances of the Game Boy, such as swappable cartridges. 

 

Here’s a list of mods I performed:

• lowered the cart slot for flush Camera

• 1455 mAh rechargeable battery 

• USB Type-C charging port

• handmade wooden grip

• dedicated shutter button

• backlit IPS display

• adjustable screen brightness

• Pentax 110 lens mount

 

Since the battery cavity needed cut out to fit the lowered cartridge slot, I needed to find a different solution for containing the battery. So, I decided to make a wooden grip to not only house the battery, but to give it more of a camera-like feel. I thought a dedicated shutter button would add to that appeal as well.
