Cover Illustration of "The 4% Indicator"
(Technical Analysis of Stocks & Commodities Magazine)
I've done work for this magazine for many years, and they appreciate a fun approach to what can sometimes be a dry subject. I liked the angles of the text '4%' when I drew it out, so I wasn't surprised that the art director chose the option I most wanted to draw, of ladders and stairs; which also signified the returns of this investment strategy...
Here are the ideas I sent; any of them would have made for an amusing cover....
Then after I sent the job, a week later they needed a change! Somehow it was determined there should be an island containing the figures; they sent me this sketch:
So with a few hours to make the fix, I grabbed some elements from illustrations I had already drawn, and put this together... victory!
Here is a tiny version of the cover; I haven't received my sample yet. But I'll be sure to update this wee picture when I do!
