MRS EAVES
Type specimen / PoliMi / 2020

The project is a specimen's realization for the Mrs Eaves typeface — designed by Zuzana Licko for Emigre Fonts — and it's composed of three parts: a short historical caption, a sample book and an extract from Raymond Queneau's Exercices de style (italian translation by Umberto Eco).
The sample book includes the set of signs that build the basic policy, the different variants that make up the font family and some blocks text-type. The extract from Exercices de style serves as the raw material for a typographical composition that manages to highlight the typeface under consideration. Finally the specimen presents, in the form of small illustrations, some structural peculiarities of Mrs Eaves.

Although it is undeniable the elegance and the taste for the classic that Mrs Eaves embodies (not surprisingly it is a reinterpretation of the famous Baskerville) this typeface has often been associated with an obvious visual code. That's why I choosed to use the colour element massively and substantially preferring a blue electric: the goal is distancing Mrs Eaves from its typical rosy and tenuous aura, giving it a freer approach. The composition remains close to the one suggested by the original foundry, respecting Licko's project
