BlackRabbit | Brand Creation

BlackRabbit was created as a self promotional project, to combine the two talents that I have specialised in: Make Up Artistery and Graphic Design. The two are a seemingly random combination, but on further examination, find many similarities that bring them together.

I wanted to create a brand that showed, in all it’s essence, that it was something different and something unique. Therefore, from the name being somewhat unexpected and slightly random, to the rabbit emblem being angular and not soft and stylised, the brand gives life to my two passions and their unique combination. 

The stationery has been kept crisp and simple in design in order to satisfy both disciplines. Some items of the stationery display well-known idioms that have been altered to include the word rabbit instead, with their purpose being to let people know that if they choose BlackRabbit, they will be choosing a brand that can offer them something exciting and unique. The posters have been designed to promote the brand, with continuation from the altered idioms found in the stationery. They display the edgy and avant garde nature of the BlackRabbit brand, creating a call to action to clients to “do something surprising”, “confront the challenge” and “reveal the secret” of their brands.

The purpose of a year-end promotional item is to keep the brand top of mind in the heads of their clients. So, this is exactly what BlackRabbit has done, creating a portfolio to the poem narrative “A way through the woods” by Rudyard Kipling. Inspired by the imagery that can be found in the beautifully written lines of the poem, I created make-up looks and photographed them in order to, ultimately, convey the misty, eerie atmosphere found in the woods, and following this designed a portfolio in which to showcase the combined talents of BlackRabbit. Using one main character to represent the “Old lost road through the woods”, the poem and portfolio take the client/viewer on a journey through the woods, building up to the climax of the mysterious “Swish of a skirt in the dew”, but...there is no road through the woods.

This portfolio would be sent to big clients, while a smaller notebook has been created, using the beautfiul black and white out takes from the shoot, including the poem, to send to all clients. Brochure “postcards” have also been created as take away, explaining the very essence of the unique BlackRabbit brand.
The end result of the project is to successfully show the amalgamtion of these two talents to create something of a unique creative phenomenon.
