Tiny House Model
I designed and modelled a sustainable and affordable tiny house made from shipping containers for an extended project at school. I modelled the project on the computer program SketchUp Pro 2020, and then wrote a book on the design and construction process of the house.

The book goes over every part of the design, from my inspiration (Bryce Langston's YouTube Channel 'Living Big in a Tiny House') to my designs and research about different technical aspects included in a house. I learnt many new things including how a solar panel system works, how water can be sourced through drainpipes and guttering, and this resulted in me making my design completely sustainable and off-the-grid. I also produced a detailed cost guide for the design, with the total price being £22,677.40.

I used many different methods of research to complete my project, including online shops for prices of materials, emailing manufacturing companies for quotes on bespoke items such as windows, and many items of literature. One such book was 'Tiny Homes Built with Recycled Materials' by Ryan Mitchell, which helped me in working out the manufacturing process. A lot of my inspiration for my design also came from Pinterest, which is where my main source of inspiration arose - BoxPark, a shopping centre in London created from shipping containers.

I chose to take on this project as it improved my design and modelling skills, while furthering my interest in sustainable and affordable architecture. The design and book were presented to my project supervisors and the associate director of Adams Architecture, a local architecture firm in Winchester. I received constructive feedback on my design such as including more detail in the choice of materials for the design, which I applied and included in the book.

After presenting the design and receiving my feedback, I was then offered a work experience opportunity from the architecture firm attending my presentation, which I will take up during the summer holidays of 2021.
These were the initial designs which were voted on by the public, where design 1, created from shipping containers won with 70% of the votes
I created three further designs and modelled them, however I realised they were too expensive and complicated to construct, so I tried a different design
I created three further designs using more shipping containers, and the public voted design 3 as the top design
This was the final 3D model I created on SketchUp Pro 2020 that I then presented and wrote about in my book
