Illustrated Playing Cards

These hand-drawn playing cards bring a unique look to the traditional deck. The theme of this set is characters representing the four main emotions: fear, peace, joy and sadness. Each emotion has its own color scheme and acts as one of the suits. The number cards are decorated with beautiful watercolor and ink florals.

The detail and lushness of the illustrations evoke the mystic quality of tarot cards that players can enjoy with regular card games. The illustrations can pull players in to exploring emotions evoked by the artwork.

Each suits King, Queen and Jack card include objects and symbols, partnering each character with flowers that symbolize the emotion. A unique aspect of this deck was illustrating the ‘jack’ characters as young women rather than young men or princes in an effort to step away from traditional gender roles usually seen in playing cards.
