Lions mate from 20 - 40 times per day. No wonder they earn the title "King Of The Jungle"
I started out with a reference picture and divided each section that I was going to draw into a grid to ensure I got the proportions right. I used a technique "negative drawing" that I picked up from Lisandro Pena @ OnlyPencil
After I scanned the drawing I brought it in to Photoshop CS5 and went to work applying distortion maps and if you look closely there are some African themes in this - I used a topographical map of Africa to do the background as well as some water-colour ink stains that I created for use as stock images for my work.
I wanted this piece to be as dynamic & radiating energy as possible so I chose a fiery hot colorway.
I tried a desaturated version as well but prefer the yellow.
