Adamant Branding & HTML/CSS for Wordpress
February 2013
Adamant’s product aims to determine the health of the user through a smart phone attachment that a user would plug into their device and breathe into.

This intriguing and promising company approached me with this fantastic idea and a need for a quick branding and a Wordpress theme re-design. I began by interviewing the stakeholders, then sketching logo marks, and developing color swatches.

Below are some samples from that process.

The stake holders wanted a modern feel, but they also wanted to explore the option of somehow combining a smartphone with an illustration of a nose.
As the sketching evolved it quickly became about something more than the device itself. I started to see that it wasn’t the device I wanted to focus on, I wanted to focus on the science behind the device. I thought it might be more brand centric to focus on what the technology represented rather than the form the technology was currently taking.
"It is the pervading law of all things organic and inorganic, of all things physical and metaphysical, of all things human and all things superhuman, of all true manifestations of the head, of the heart, of the soul, that the life is recognizable in its expression, that form ever follows function. This is the law." ~Sullivan, Louis H. (1896). "The Tall Office Building Artistically Considered".
So the function here is really the measurement and analysis of a user’s breathe, of their air. So below, I focus on that, illustrating the device pulling in air.
Here was the last attempt at thinking about health or internal medical functions for the logo mark. I felt this direction and iconography was completely overused in healthcare already. I moved onto more type studies.
As I started to work with color palettes I found myself gravitating to a darker theme, again, I was trying to explore the technology benefits rather than the current technology state.
As I began to introduce typography I wanted to stay as simple as possible. One or two steps away from Helvetica, Ubuntu seemed like a smart middle ground.
I tired about 11 variations of this one logo and eventually found myself happy with the version below.

It was then a smooth transition to margining my color choices, type choices and logo to a smart comprehensible Wordpress theme.
The Wordpress theme design where I customized the HTML and CSS for Adamant.
