I am thrilled to share with you my last piece called Univearth. This little one is my longest drawing project ever. A year in the making for this commission work, that gathered multiple inspirational places and monuments from different cities :
London, Miami, New York, Paris and Versailles.

This piece has been my laboratory during this year and, I have to say, it has been a great partner which taught me a lot. I pushed it to its limits to experiment new techniques and ideas, trying to merge different universes in a dynamic composition. I started with a sketch on paper to get the composition and all the different perspectives, and then I filled in the details on the big one.

Based on the photographic material I have had access to, I tried to construct and blur at the same time the different areas with graphical lines that enhanced the architecture and represented fragments of memories from the collector and his family.

I worked these abstract parts like a multi-layers grid, inspired by windows reflections from skyscrapers, by using overlaps of diluted ink and masking technique to get transparencies and fadings. These lines remind meridians and parallels covering the earth to create a grid around the globe. By playing with them, I wanted to create rhythm throughout the drawing and transitions between locations, to symbolize the journey of this family.

It is the first time I have worked on this scale at this level of intricacy, using water colour techniques married to my black and white practice.
