South March Highlands

South March Highlands
I’ve always been interested in nature photography. Since I’ve never been much of a social person, it’s nice to go out alone and photograph my surroundings without having to worry about the people around me. I typically prefer to photograph animals because I find them more interesting subjects, but for this project I instead decided to go for a walk in the South March Highlands, a trail that I’ve walked many times before, and take photos along the way. The only issue is that I don’t like taking photos of trees very much because it gets repetitive and I find that all my photos end up looking basically the same. So for this project I took photos of things that caught my eye and stood out from the rest, such as a small wooden bridge that leads to nowhere or the various man-made structures worn out by the environment . (I’ve always thought it was interesting how man-made structures can be taken over by nature and worn down over time, and I thought this would be a good chance to explore that a bit).
My main influence (in terms of nature and wildlife photography) is Paul Nicklen. Similar to many of his photos, I usually like my photos to have lots of colour and high contrast. For this project, I decided to do the opposite and go for a simpler, more muted style and edited my photos the opposite of how I normally would. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked them in the end.
