This is a novel about the Soviet investigation team asked the Japanese captives to find a tunnel to Japan underneath the volcano. In the process, the two sides chased underground, experienced hunger and pain, and discovered creatures that should have been extinct in ancient times, such as dinosaurs, still alive underground...
This is why I drew a volcano with claws/sharp teeth on top. The reflection of the volcano intuitively symbolizes the “underground”. The bottom of the reflection can be directly regarded as animal claws. The text blocks cut off on both sides of the reflection simulated the state of “passing through the underground”. The design is finally supplemented by a large mesh to create an atmosphere of imprisonment and isolation.
The kanji of the Japanese book title, which is only different from the Chinese title by the character “獣”, I put it on the custom-made logotype by small size print font, in order to enhances readability and adds visual features.
On the front and back of the inside cover, the turning of the volcano (and its reflection) is used to symbolize the viewpoints of above and beneath the ground. It is the ground viewpoint on the front, and the underground viewpoint trapped in a net on the back.
