The Critical Loo examines on a design theoretical level, public toilets as a place and object of communication and misunderstanding. In the course of this research project, I dealt with the needs, problems and fears of toilet users and asked the question about the role of design in this context. What is the power of design when it comes to dealing with shame and fears? How do we, as designers, deal with a topic that is full of prohibitions and taboos?
