Manila came a long way from a history of various occupying powers; the concentrated influences inflicted alongside their original indigenous culture gave birth to what is defined as ‘local’. The confrontational nature of the densely cultured city is highly distinguishable. Despite how the manifestation of the capital may seem scattered; the chaos eludes a palpable essence that is wholly Manila.

My binge on the densely cultured and saturated city results in a reflex, a reaction to recreate the inimitable aura of Manila.

This series features ink drawings and silkscreen assemblage. This was completed in 2012 after a research study trip to Manila, Philippines where I have been very fortunate to be able to meet various artist friends who generously guided us around to various studios, galleries and the University of the Philippines.

Manila has been an eye opener, colourful and at times overwhelming but definately flavourful in every bite. I really enjoyed my stay there especially when it was a trip with the most kickass team. I love Manila!
