My day job is working in the voluntary sector. I work with people who are sometimes filled with despair and who find it difficult to see the beauty in the world. People who's lives have been hurt, wounded or destroyed by circumstance. This reminds me that the world is full of beauty and if we stop to smell the roses (or any flower) we can be reminded that circumstance can change. We can make our lives better by making different choices. We can see the beauty in ourselves when we see the beauty around us. And when we see the beauty within ourselves then the beauty around us becomes sharper and all the more wonderful.
