Competition for Mercedes-Benz Tamworth Showroom:
Inside Out Studios a groups of five students all working collaboratively to put together a design proposal for the Mercedes-Benz car showroom in Tamworth. The concept behind our design was influenced by the brand's slogan 'The best or nothing' and so we decided to incorporate this within our work. This was done through spatial arrangement, materials and facilities. In addition, we explored the future of electric cars and how all car manufactuerers are moving towards an eco-friendlier lifestyle. The interior arrangement was divided into three key categories: selling, collecting and the after sales. Selling comes under the showroom,  where we have also seperated this into three areas: past, present and future.

The past refers to the history of Mercedes and how it all starts, visually represented by bespoke wall panellings created by one of our designers. By showcasing the history it educates customers about the brand identity and its overall background.

The present showcases the cars we love and know Mercedes make. These are closest to the window and the first thing customers see when driving in. In the centre of the room we have the electric car: the future element. It is surrounded by LED displays that show videos of how electric cars are shaping the future of Mercedes-Benz. This is a focal part of our design and is visible from all areas of the showroom.
Exterior of Mercedes-Benz Tamworth:
Glazed windows that open enabling cars to enter the showroom. Dark monochromatic exterior replicating the interior and overall brand.
Showroom:
Showcasing in the centre of the space the electric car - the focal point of our design. The showroom has lighting fixtures above that is representative of the Mercedes grille - one of its most recognisble feature.
The Showroom: Wall panelling showcasing images of the history of Mercedes-Benz and their brand identity.
Tech Table: Further into the showroom there are tables with ipads, these are purposely for entertainment but also, for customers who may be waiting they can access the website and browse online.
Seating Pods: These are located in the showroom area but, further towards the back. These are purposely for clients and staff to have more private discussions. The Mercedes logo is added on some of the pods - keeping the brand identity consistent throughout.
The Café/ Refreshment area: Customers are able to relax and converse around this area whilst their waiting for their car or to talk with a member of staff. Adding a mini café enables customers to stay longer and creates a more memorable experience.
Collection Point: Buying a car is a huge commitment and we wanted this part to be just as special and memorable. So, we have provided an area that allows customers to spend time with their new car. Digital LED displays are installed within the space to create a backdrop for the car - with interchangeable images, customers can tailer the background.
The Mezzanine Floor: providing staff with a comfortable and relaxing space to work and unwind. There are open plan offices with interactive partition screens, making presenting easier and more enjoyable.
Service Area: (after sales) this is where the relationship between Mercedes and the customer is kept positive by providing the most excellent customer service you would expect from any high-end car dealership. We designed a space that is divded into two floors. The ground floor has a customer lounge area -  customers can sit and relax whilst their car is being serviced. The second room is for staff entering in and out of the building but, it also acts as a reception/ office area.
On the second floor there are more private meetings for staff.
