Design Futures: CRiSPR

What is the limit to what we can design?

CRISPR is a medical technology/tool that allows you to edit your genes. It's a groundbreaking method that can be used to alter the gender of your baby, cure cancer, treat HIV, and reverse aging... among many other things that are still being discovered.

If the uses of CRISPR really are as limitless as it's advocates claim, how much can we actually change about ourselves? Can we avoid cancer, chemo, and surgeries by buying CRISPR at the pharmacy and eradicating the possibility from our genes? Can we eliminate mental health issues all together, rather than taking a daily medication? Will we be able to access parts or change the chemistry of our brain to work the way we want it? Can we change our eye and hair color?

I asked myself what the design of CRISPR would look like if, in 25 years, we're able to buy it over the counter and administer it ourselves. How do you design something that allows you to design yourself?
