When it came to pulling off this shot I decided to set it up on a black stage and use some of the LED’s and stage lights available on stage to add some color/ambient lighting. I had the camera set close to two stage lights on the right side of the shot both placed in slightly different positions, so that the blue stage lights being shot would be shining on both my cousin and the drum-set. Next was making sure I had the strobe, using the white umbrella, placed properly so that it would properly light the shot without underexposing or overexposing the image. It took some adjusting because I thought that since I was using a black stage it would have been best to use the white umbrella to add more light to the low-light/black stage. But then I had to switch to the black umbrella due to overexposure. After a couple of shots I had decide to place the strobe light in front of the drum set rather than on the right side of the shot which ended up looking a lot better, it sort of had the effect of another stage light shining the front of the drums.
