Voudon/Yoruba Gods and Goddesses
An ongoing project of painting deities around the world. These are the first.
I am fascinated by all the deities in world religion. These numerous forms of otherworldly powers we worship in hopes of making our existence better, or perhaps to explain the unexplainable. Regardless of one's beliefs, the images are fascinating. The first few I have started are versions of Voodoo deities, from the gatekeeper, Papa Legba and the ubiquitous Baron Samedi, to Oya, Brigit and others.
Papa Legba, sometimes called Elegua. He is the gatekeeper and the man at crossroads. One must greet him before gaining passage to speak with any other spirit.

Brigit and Simbi. Brigit is a mysterious goddess who has some connection to Bridgitte in Irish legends. Simbi is a serpent god.
