LeBron James agrees to two-year extension with Lakers

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement on a two-year, $85 million contract extension that runs through the 2022-23 season, his agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports told Yahoo Sports.

The 16-time All-Star led the Lakers to the championship in October, capturing Finals MVP honors.

James owned a $41 player option for the 2021-22 season that could have made him a free agent next summer. That will be torn up in favor of a slight raise in 2021-22 and $44.5 million guaranteed in 2022-23.

James started his career with the Cavaliers, playing 11 total seasons that covered two separate stints. He spent four years in Miami and will play five with the Lakers. The expiration of this deal gives him 20 NBA seasons. It also aligns with his oldest son, Bronny, graduating high school. On multiple occasions, James has spoken with reporters about the unique possibility of playing alongside his son, and the NBA’s age requirement to enter the draft could be lifted by then.

After James’ first season in L.A. ended without a playoff appearance, he led the Lakers to the NBA title, beating the Heat in six games. The most recent championship brought his count to four. He also became the first player in NBA history to win Finals MVP with three different franchises.

The Lakers shuffled their title roster this offseason, losing Dwight Howard, Danny Green, JaVale McGee, and Rajon Rondo. They added Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell, Wesley Matthews and Marc Gasol. 바카라사이트

“We can (repeat). I mean, it’s that simple,” James said recently on an episode of the “Road Trippin’” podcast. “We absolutely can. First of all, it all starts with health. You have to have some luck. You have to have health. If we can stay healthy.”

With James locked in, the Lakers will turn their attention to re-signing Anthony Davis, who opted out of his contract ahead of free agency.
