74 Locarno Film Festival
Poster proposition
This is my proposition for the poster contest of the 74 Locarno Film Festival.
The starting point for this series of poster is the desire to put the cinematic image back at the center of the visual identity of the festival, given the importance of the films and directors awarded at Locarno in the history of cinema. Three images from three award-winning films at the festival are used :
- «Abrir puertas y ventanas» by Milagros Mumenthaler, released in 2011.
- «Nénette et Boni» by Claire Denis, released in 1997
- «Stranger Than Paradise» by Jim Jarmusch, released in 1984.
Thus, three different eras and three different continents are represented, showing the diversity of the festival, a major element of its identity.
The historical leopard is revisited in an original way, as a surprising element that creates a story in the image and intrigues the spectator, who naturally follows the gaze of the characters directed towards the leopard, who embodies the festival, as if it really appeared in the image. This way, the poster captures the attention and the leopard gives a common visual identity to the series. Finally, the three posters are based on the gaze, which evokes cinema, a contemplative art that results from a relationship between several gazes: those of the actors, those of the directors and those of the spectators.
