The client opted for an unusual palette of browns, creams and orange from a series of designs for both the brand identity and for the website. As the client allowed for a number of key colour points on the palette it created a number of interesting opportunities.
Site Design
The Internet Salon’s website was developed by Advansys, upon their bespoke e-commerce platform. I supplied fireworks composite designs for the main pages together with styling documents, front-end code for some components, and individual web-ready graphics files for their development process. Advansys, and their developers, were very receptive to both my involvement—where usually they were responsible for web-design—and to that of the client.

The client had wished for the banner-header to accommodate video for each product sold. Using Flash I was able to produce the front-end code to include the banner and  on-demand video loading using the FlashJavascript Gateway and controllable by flashVars. However, due to security concerns, in particular from cross-component scripting and the vulnerabilities of the Flash player plugin, Advansys were unable to incorporate this into launch.

Vouchers
The Internet Salon also required me to design and develop their vouchers for the website, including the production of a non-sequential, unique voucher-code program. The end vouchers were produced for print, email (in pdf form) and html production. The voucher’s production also led to the design of the Internet Salon wrapping paper.

Credits
The Internet Salon logo is set in URW’s Bodoni Narrow at several weights (2000), and uses the then web-safe fonts of Verdana as a title face (Matthew Carter, 1996), and Helvetica/Arial (Miedinger & Hoffman, 1957; Roberts & Saunders, 1982) for body copy.

The Internet Salon website was built  by Advansys, using their custom e-commerce platform.
