This design focuses on the underground influences of grunge fashion. Inspiration was taken from a wide variety of street art, dilapidated structures and seedy backstreet settings in order to create a realistic 'street' themed men's clothing shop interior.
The design conveys a vandalised, chaotic street setting that reflects the nature of grunge fashion, thus making the shop interior an extension of the clothing range. This is achieved using intentionally damaged and aged objects such as crumbling concrete pillars, shattered mirrors and dented barrels to present the items of clothing. Towards the far end of the room, a delivery truck that has seemingly ploughed through a brick wall provides a display platform for additional items of clothing.
To draw contrast between the vandalised setting and commercial nature of the space, a series of sleek, glossy furnishings such as chrome benches and acrylic clothing units have been introduced at various points around the room. These clashing furnishings add an element of style to the design and imply that the shop is not actually run down, but simply a purpose built scene for the clothing range. In addition, a number of bespoke items have been used to generate a more interesting design, for example the use of British telephone boxes as changing rooms and park benches for seating builds on the character of the space.
The lighting scheme within this design is extensive in order to create the mood and atmosphere necessary for the scene, a series of dim ceiling spotlights and suspended spotlight rails illuminate the areas where clothing is displayed whilst a range of colourful feature lighting accentuates the key design elements and creates a sense of indulgence for the male customers.
