If I Designed Issue 20; The Virgil Abloh Issue

For my independent Special Projects class at Lake Washington Institute of Technology, we were assigned to design whatever we wanted. I'm very interested in pursing a path towards magazine editorials with a focus in art direction/layout/graphic design. This is part 1 focusing on magazine covers.

Hypebeast is a leading cultural magazine focusing on fashion, footwear, music, art, design, tech, entertainment, gaming, automotive, food & beverage, travel, and sports. They are successful because they stay within the culture of what's hype in the current moment; whats trending, and who is making the trends.
Virgil Abloh is my idol when it comes to design, fashion, architecture, art, and inspirational creativity; His exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, "Figures of Speech", took my breath away. Because of these inspirations, I wanted to do a deep dive competitive analysis of what it would be like to design Issue 20 of Hypebeast magazine about Virgil Abloh and his career.

Each magazine cover has photos taken from his Exhibition recently curated at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago titled, "Figures of Speech", and others. I chose stock images for cost efficiency reasons along with the unfortunate timing of Covid-19.

Enjoy!
