Objective: Design and typeset an entire book that is in the public domain using Adobe InDesign, including 5 illustrations. 

Metamorphosis is a book about an ordinary salesman waking up one day in his bed to find that he has inexplicably turned into a human-sized insect ("monstrous vermin"), subsequently struggling to adjust to this new condition. I wanted the illustrations and layout of this book to emulate the unsettling and repugnant nature of this story. 

The pattern seen on the endpapers and cover of the book is meant to emulate a scaly pattern that would be seen on an insect. 

The illustrations are all constructed of a sketchy and textured outline and filled in loosely with solid muted colors. Most of the illustrations also have a pop of bright red to add an ominous touch. I wanted them to feel messy, natural, and chaotic. 

I implemented the use of a dotted line within the composition of the table of contents along with the pages at the beginning of each chapter, as if a bug was crawling throughout the pages of the book. 

I wanted to utilize sideways type within this book in order to not only give it an unexpected element of unease, but to emulate the ways in which an insect crawls on walls and on ceilings.
