Disney Profiling
Disney movies have a very significant presence in society, and as “innocent” as the films may seem to be in childhood, they can provide some shock value in adulthood. They certainly did for me. As I watched the movies again as an adult—after years of not—I saw Disney in a new way: saturated with gender stereotypes, with very rigid views on gender norms and gender roles.

I noticed it so clearly; all of the princesses were essentially the same, as were all of the princes, villains, fathers, and grandmothers. The same fundamental gender roles brought these characters together, and they spewed out these roles to viewers. Walt Disney was the puppet master of all of this, and he used his films to spread his idea on what society should worship: patriarchy.

In mockery of the gender stereotypes that are so blatantly obvious in Disney movies, I designed a trading card set of Disney characters and themes. The card set is composed of five categories: Princesses, Villains, Men, Fairies, and Disney Themes. The cards contain amusing quotes and descriptions that show how conventional Disney is with gender norms. This set is meant to humor the viewer and also expose them to the negative effects of gender stereotyping.
