3. Herb Lubalin’s idea of typography: “What I’m doing is not really graphic design, which I think is a basically applied toolbar to put information on a surface, often superficial. Design with structures and from structure – in the background and sometimes in the foreground, back and forth.”

The poster is based on a typographic grid and the river is symbolized by a lowercase y. In the background is a text flowing in the fields from a WWF study: Rebirth along China’s Yangtze River.

The purest possible simplicity of the forms encourages calm contemplation and reading in front of the poster. This is not a retinal motif-centered representation, but a meaningful surface.
