The illustration shows a traditonal polish ceremonial farewell to winter.

 

This ceremonial involves walking through the city with a straw puppet dressed as a woman which embodies winter.

 

At the end the puppet is flamed and thrown into the river so that we can shout: farewell Miss Winter, farewell!
