Matthew Bannon IM 113 Assignment 1

Taken at the beginning of the night in my roommate's room. The backstory of this particular shot is that he had just advanced to the top of the scoreboard in our local game of Civilization V. The smug look of naval dominance as the British Empire.
I altered the brightness and contrast of the image so as to see his face better. I also used the sharpen tool to overload the image and create an effect that reminds me of old paintings that have weathered severely. I went with this appearance because it fit in with the Civ game behind it, since this was taken in an early era of the game.
Taken the morning after, the living room of my apartment is littered with games, soda cans, and other snacks. Interestingly enough, this is relatively clean compared to how trashed it normally is after an all-night marathon.
Once again, I altered the brightness and contrast to give it grayish appearance; to make it feel groggy and gloomy as we had felt after going until 5:00 A.M. Additionally, I removed the glare from the televisions and made the amller one appear to have a crack in the center of the screen. Tempers may flare during intense matches and scenes; property damage abound.
Practicing for the impending CoD: Black Ops II matchmaking, my roommate refines his multiplayer prowess. However, much to his chagrin, he is constantly shut-down by the brutal computers. Taken about 30 minutes before everyone showed up, laptops in tow.
The biggest change I made to this shot was removing the lens cap that I had left on the table as well as the blanket that covered a portion of the bottom. I feel that the end result draws the eye towards my roommate and the killcam being shown on the television; the beholder feeling a twinge of pity for his fruitless endeaver. Better stick to Zombies mode, my friend!
My action shot, taken not long after the one above, captures the essence of rage that every gamer will feel at various low points. Blinded by his frustration, he cocks the controller back with intent to throw towards the camera. It's interesting, because I feel that this image perfectly captures the feeling of malice that games may cause.
The main focus of this edit was to blur the surroundings and leave my roommate as well as the television in focus. I added a bit of red coloring to his face to further bring out the frustration this picture encapsulates. The cord from the controller was removed to push the threat of the controller being hurled towards the camera; without the cord, the danger seems much more imminent. To be fair, it was a little bit of my fault for declaring him a noob; I quickly learned my lesson!
Following the prior image, this shot was taken much later in the night when my other roommate, whom is not pictured in this series, was playing Banko-Kazooie. This shot is something close to me, because Banjo-Kazooie was one of the first video games I've ever played, and I hold many fond memories of playing on the Nintendo 64.
The major edit of this shot was cropping it to be level and to also show less of the background to further demonstrate the symmetry of the console. I also used a combination of the healing tool and paintbrush to touch up the tag on the front, and attempt to make it look younger than it is. I really like this picture, because the focus is on the illustration on the game cartridge, and conveys the feeling of nostolgia to those who also once owned such a console.
This last picture was ironically taken first, before the madness of the night began. Taken in the epicenter, it pays homage to those who dedicate their weekends to staying up late into the wee hours of the night vanquishing foes, conquering lands, and drinking far too much caffeine!
Out of the series, I believe this is the best edit I've done. Utilising the lasso, I darkened and blurred the background, and brightened the foreground. The contrast creates a glorifying effect, creating an altar like structure that is visually appealing; the golden Zelda cartridge in the center being the crown jewel, so to speak.
