I created a redesign of Sonar, a character from the Transformers toyline as part of a contest on a website. The challenge was to create an existing character from the Beast Wars toyline and recreate it as a more modern Cybertronian version. I chose Sonar because in my opinion, female robots are under-represented in the Transformers universe. Because her character was a bat, I decided the best transformation for her would be a stealth bomber.

The idea for how the character will look came to me pretty quickly. The head was something I had to consider since the head and its expression was an important part of how the character will come out.

And this is the original look of the character. One of the other motivations for choosing Sonar was because she was a victim of Hasbro's choice of "sex-changing" characters in order to fill certain roles. In this case, they needed a female presence, as such, they chose a background character and turned him into a her. However, just from the look of the character itself, you can tell that "she" was never meant to be female in the first place. I aimed to change that be making sure her redesign at least made her look female.
