Juan Francisco Casas Ruiz was born in La Carolina, JaĆ©n, 21 September 1976. He got a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1999 and a Master in Fine Arts in 2003 from the University of Granada. During his studies he was first in his class and won theĀ National AwardĀ for Master Thesis of the Ministry of Education and Science for the best graduate qualifications in Spain, an award which was presented by Culture Minister, Pilar del Castillo.Ā 
In 2000, he received the scholarship of Teacher Education and Research. From that year until 2004 he completed his PhD at the University pf Granada while also teaching drawing and printmaking in their Department of Drawing.
In 2002 he was selected for the INJUVE Art Show, at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in MadridĀ and later toured the capitals of Latin America. Since this year he is represented byĀ GalerĆ­a Fernando PradillaĀ (Madrid) andGalerĆ­a El MuseoĀ (Bogota, Colombia), but has also done collaborations with Galeria Luis Adelantado (Valencia-Miami), Galeria Metta (Madrid) or FerrĆ”n Cano Gallery (Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca), among others.Ā 
In 2004 he won the prestigiousĀ ABC Prize of Painting, the president of the jury being the artistĀ Luis Gordillo, and the award was given by Culture Minister Pilar del Castillo.Ā 
In 2005 he was the only Spanish representative in theĀ 2nd Biennial of Prague, (Prague Biennale 2, Expanded Painting / Direct Action) organized there by the major international journal of contemporary artĀ Flash Art MagazineĀ and was among other relevant international artists such asĀ Damien Hirst, Maurizio CattelanĀ andNeo Rauch.Ā 
In 2006, after residing in Berlin, he participated in the exhibition Catharsis - Rituals of Purification in theMuseo Artium, Basque Museum of Contemporary Art, Vitoria, (along with featured artists such asĀ Antoni Tapies, Antonio Saura, Miquel BarcelĆ³, Jorge Oteiza and Antoni Muntadas) and The Sock Strategy. Sock Strategy in theĀ International Biennial of Contemporary Art of Seville.Ā 
While living in Brighton (UK) in 2007 he received the prestigiousĀ Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Spain in RomeĀ where he lived one year. In Rome he collaborated with the artistĀ Joseph Kosuth, as well asĀ  Kosuthā€™s installation of his exhibition at La Casa Encendida in Madrid.Ā 
In 2008 he had exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Fine ArtsĀ of San Fernando (Madrid), at theĀ Royal Academy of Spain in RomeĀ and in Las Vegas (USA) in the group show The Joy of Sex.Ā 
In 2009, he had his works displayed at theĀ Instituto Cervantes in New York, Warsaw and Moscow, in the exhibitionĀ 10 Years of Art in the ABC Awards.Ā 
In 2010 he participated, along with artists such asĀ Gustave Courbet, Edward Hopper, Gerhard Richter, Edouard Manet, Erwin Wurm, Robert Longo, Chuck Close, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Rineke Dijkstra, Otto Dix, Richard Estes, Franz Gertsch, Julian Opie, Sam Taylor-Wood and Andreas Gursky, in the impressive display Realismus. Das Abenteuer der Wirklichkeit (Realism The Adventure of Reality) in the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung, Munich and at the Kunsthalle in Emden (Germany), and in the group show After Post (beyond the photo) withĀ Vik Muniz, Gregory Crewdson, Helena Almeida, John Baldessari, Sherrie Levine Luis Gordillo and Sherrie Levine. Also in 2010, he was awarded theĀ Fellowship of the College of Spain in ParisĀ where he lived until the end of that year.Ā 
In 2011 he participated withĀ Alex Katz, General Idea and Hans-Peter FeldmannĀ in the group show Cover girl at the Galerie des Galeries, Paris.Ā 
He has had numerous solo exhibitions highlightingĀ Saturdaynigthbathroom,Ā Bare(ly)thereĀ andĀ Foreignaffairs(GalerĆ­a Fernando Pradilla, Madrid, 2005, 2008 and 2010 respectively),Ā MyLovingNationĀ (GalerĆ­a Ferran Cano, Palma de Mallorca, 2007),Ā Sacrebleu!Ā (Sandunga Gallery, Granada, 2006),Ā Mis(s)behaveĀ (Sala Rivadavia, DiputaciĆ³n Provincial de CĆ”diz, 2006) and participated in the most important art fairs in the world and in almost all editions of ARCO since 2002. Exhibitions in New York, Miami, Chicago, Seoul, Singapore, London, Paris, Mexico and Basel, among many others, have benefited from his work and he has received numerous awards and national and international scholarships.Ā 
As a parallel effort he has published numerous books including poetry books likeĀ ThesummerhaikusĀ andĀ A and Other PoemsĀ at Editions Alea Blanca.Ā 
His work is represented in major collections including theĀ Museum ArtiumĀ or theĀ ABC MuseumĀ and in private collections around the world.
