Rapid One - Concept Rollingstock

The Rapid One concept opens a view to the outside world for passengers through its unique structure and interior design.  With lightweight composites and new architecture, Rapid One can be more efficient and beautiful than conventional rail cars.  The rollingstock is designed for standard track guage (1435mm), making the train suited for American, Western European, Middle Eastern, Australian, and Chinese markets.
Lightweight sheets of plastic composite wrap over the structure, replacing the heavy conventional glass windows.  Mechanical and electrical systems are located below the floor, with lighting and HVAC systems integrated into the lattice structure.
Seats rotate to allow face-to-face seating for large parties.  This also allows the train to run in either direction without forcing passengers to ride facing backwards.
Seat-adjacent windows feature pixelated smart glass, displaying trip information.  These windows function as an augmented reality system, providing the passenger with relevant information regarding the location, current view, landmarks, etc.
Lighting is integrated in the curved overhead structure.  Each seat has a dedicated directional light, controlled from the armrest.
Design Background

The design is inspired by the strength and beauty of lattice structures.  It allows vast views without giving the feeling of exposure while providing the robust structural system needed for high speed rail.
