Julia Smythe fell in love. A love that began across the pharmacy counter, only to meet a fateful end beneath her lover’s hotel. Smythe was the catalyst that drove Dr. H.H. Holmes from a lovestruck hotel owner, to the monster of Chicago. The story of Smythe Absinthe tells the perspective of America’s first recorded serial killer from the eyes of the one person he truly loved- a distorted and sick reality that would ultimately cost her and her daughters life.
