Come i designer possono affrontare la violenza di genere?

In collaborazione con Libere Sinergie - un'associazione che si occupa di pari opportunità e diritti umani - si è deciso di coinvolgere tutte le studentesse e gli studenti IED Milano in un progetto chiamato AmAbilità - per contribuire alla lotta e al contrasto alla violenza sulle donne, in un'accezione "positiva". AmAbilità vuole parlare di ciò che si può definire "abilità di amare". Attraverso interventi artistici nella città, desidera comunicare alle passanti e ai passanti un messaggio positivo. AmAbilità vuole combattere la violenza sulle donne in ogni sua possibile forma: fisica, psicologica e/o economica. Il progetto vuole creare consapevolezza ad ogni possibile vittima di violenza tramite i messaggi: "non sei sola", "l'amore non è a intermittenza", "alla violenza si può dire no". Si vuole inoltre trasmettere un'idea di amore non violento ai minori. Ogni studente ha presentato un massimo di tre proposte riguardanti il tema "violenza sulle donne". I dieci progetti più rappresentativi sono stati selezionati da un'apposita giuria. Tra giugno e novembre 2020 gli autori dei lavori selezionati sono stati chiamati a dipingere le illustrazioni e le grafiche sulle saracinesche della città di Milano. Le rappresentazioni sono state quindi realizzate con pennelli, rulli, stencil e spray.

How can designers fight gender violence?

In collaboration with Libere Sinergie - an association that deals with equal opportunities and human rights - it has been decided to involve all IED Milan students in a project called AmAbilità - contributing to fight against violence against women in a "positive" way. AmAbilità wants to talk about what can be defined as "ability to love". Through artistic interventions in the city, the project wishes to communicate to passersby a positive message. AmAbilità wants to fight violence against women in all its possible forms: physical, psychological and/or economical violence. This project would like to create awareness to a possible victim of violence by saying "you're not alone", "love is not intermittently", "you can say no to violence". We would also like to transmit an idea of nonviolent love to minors. Every student presented a maximum of three projects on "violence against women" topic. The ten most iconic projects have been selected by a jury. Between June and November 2020 the authors of the selected artworks painted their drawings and graphics on shutters prepared just for you in the city of Milan.The artworks have been represented by using brushes, rollers, stencils and sprays.

Questo progetto è un concentrato d’amore:
c’è l’amore di chi lo realizza, di chi mette a disposizione la propria saracinesca, di chi lo supporta; c’è amore nei messaggi dipinti sulle saracinesche; c’è l’amor proprio e l’amore nei confronti del prossimo. E infine anche l’amore per l’ambiente, grazie alla scelta dei materiali. In varie forme c’è l’amore, che è tutto ciò che nella violenza, qualsiasi forma essa abbia, manca. L’amore è il tema e il fine, soprattutto perché c’è chi non sa amare o non sa amarsi.

This project is a concentrate of love: there is the love of those who make it, of those who make their shutters available, of those who support them; there is love in the messages painted on the shutters; there is self-love and love for one's neighbor. And finally also the love for the environment, thanks to the choice of materials. In various forms there is love, which is all that is lacking in violence, whatever form it may have. Love is the theme and the goal, especially because there are those who don't know how to love or who don't know how to love each other.

Associamo spesso le arti visive alla pubblicità dimenticandoci del grande ruolo che possono e devono ricoprire nel creare un ambiente sociale migliore. Il progetto AmAbilità ha fatto capire alle nostre studentesse

e ai nostri studenti che il Design non si fa solo davanti ai computer ma che può invadere la città, assumere una fisicità e un movimento che possono cambiare la percezione di un luogo e aiutare a comprendere tematiche complesse come la violenza di genere. Sporcarsi le mani non solo di colore ma soprattutto di valore. Creare immagini che, anche se non saranno la soluzione, possano diventare un dito puntato verso questa. Cercare la ragione e il dialogo con forme e colori finché non si vivrà in una società libera dalla violenza e dalla paura. Perché, in fondo, il Design non è altro che intelligenza resa visibile”.

We often associate the visual arts with advertising, forgetting the great role they can and should play in creating a better social environment. The Project "AmAbilità" made our students understand that Design is not only done in front of computers but it can invade the city, take on a physicality and a movement that can change the perception of a place and help to understand complex issues such as gender violence. Get your hands dirty not only with color but above all with value. Create images that, even if they will not be the solution, can become a finger pointing towards it. Look for reason and dialogue with shapes and colors until you live in a society free from violence and fear. Because, after all, Design is just intelligence made visible ".

Le saracinesche: simbolo di una lotta che non chiude mai! Per farci sentire anche di notte, quando tutto sembra tacere. Le saracinesche sono state scelte come simbolo della continua lotta alla violenza sulle donne. Tutte le saracinesche dipinte e da dipingere sono messe a disposizione da singoli privati, da società, da collettivi, da associazioni il cui interesse comune è far parte del cambiamento, far rete e rafforzare sia l’informazione sul tema sia il network nel proprio quartiere. Insieme, sinergicamente, possiamo contribuire alla lotta alla violenza sulle donne. Insieme possiamo contrastare la violenza. Insieme possiamo promuovere forme di amore al sicuro. Insieme è più facile dire no.

The shutters: symbol of a fight that never ends! To make us feel even at night, when everything seems to be silent. The shutters were chosen as a symbol of the continuing fight against violence against women. All the painted and unpainted shutters are made available by individuals, by companies, by collectives, by associations whose common interest is to be part of the change, to network and strengthen both information on the topic and the network in their neighborhood. Together, synergistically, we can contribute to the fight against violence against women. Together we can fight violence. Together we can foster safe forms of love. Together it's easier to say no.
