Another Time in Borobudur
"a mystical heaven on earth"
I probably don't know how many times I have been to this Borobudur area to take pictures, maybe there are more than ten times and I haven't been bored to take pictures of one of the wonders of this world. But every time I travel here I always find a new, beautiful photo. This is a photo in the middle of a pandemic where the Indonesian government has made allowances for its people to travel while adhering to health protocols.
At first glance, I will repeat a little history about Borobudur, which is the largest temple in the world.
Borobudur, or Barabudur is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist Temple in Magelang Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. The temple consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. It is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa.
Built in the 9th century during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty, the temple design follows Javanese Buddhist architecture, which blends the Indonesian indigenous cult of ancestor worship and the Buddhist concept of attaining Nirvana. The temple demonstrates the influences of Gupta Art that reflects India's influence on the region, yet there are enough indigenous scenes and elements incorporated to make Borobudur uniquely Indonesian. The monument is a shrine to the lord Buddha and a place for Buddha pilgrimage. The pilgrim journey begins at the base of the monument and follows a path around the monument, ascending to the top through three levels symbolic of Buddhist cosmology : Kamadhatu (the world of desire), Rupadhatu (the world of forms) and Arupadhatu (the world of formlessness). The monument guides pilgrims through an extensive system of stairways and corridors with 1,460 narrative relief panels on the walls and the balustrades. Borobudur has one of the largest and most complete ensembles of Buddhist reliefs in the world.

“Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.”
- Buddha
“The past is already gone, the future is not yet here.
There’s only one moment for you to live.”
- Buddha
"All that we are is the result of what we have thought."
- Buddha
“What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract.
What you imagine, you create.”
- Buddha
"When watching after yourself, you watch after others. When watching after others, you watch after yourself."
- Buddha
“Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.”
- Buddha
“If you are quiet enough, you will hear the flow of the universe. You will feel its rhythm. Go with this flow. Happiness lies ahead. Meditation is key.”
- Buddha
“Anger will never disappear so long as thoughts of resentment are cherished in the mind. Anger will disappear just as soon as thoughts of resentment are forgotten.”
- Buddha
“You cannot travel the path until you have become the path itself.”
- Buddha
"The greatest gift is to give people your enlightenment, to share it.
It has to be the greatest."
- Buddha
“In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west; people create distinctions out of their own minds and then believe them to be true.”
- Buddha
“We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.”
-Buddha
